Blog-E-Work: Respect

This month our principal has asked us to talk about respect. We read the book The Recess Queen by Alexis O'Neill and discussed how she could be more respectful to her classmates. Although the book does have some funny parts, we took time to really talk about how it would feel to be treated the way The Recess Queen treated her friends.

Blog-E assignment:
1. Ask your child to retell the story to you. If you happen to have a copy of the book, read it again with your child. If not, perfect, let your child be the story teller.

2. Talk with your child about the importance of respecting your friends and what respect means in your family.

3. Post a comment about what respect means to your child.

Ms. Howard's idea of respect: Respect means saying please and thank you. It also means listening with all of my senses while others are talking.

I can't wait to read your responses! See you tomorrow,
Ms. Howard

Blog-E-Work Night: Sink or Float

This week in science the children are learning about items that sink or float and what helps them to do so. They are having so much fun exploring and brainstorming ideas to drop in the water.

Here is your Blog-E-Work assignment tonight:
1. Choose 5 items from around your house. They may be toys, small items from the kitchen, or any item that you wouldn't mind to get wet.

2. Fill the sink with water and predict if the item will sink or float.

3. Drop the item in the water to determine your answer.

4. Post your items and results in the comments section.

I can't wait to see what items you choose! Good luck, and remember to ask permission before dropping the items in the water. Ask for help to fill the sink!

Have fun and see you in the morning!
Ms. Howard

Famous

We are news worthy again! This week the press visited us to see how we are doing and what's new in the world of Kindergarten at GLA! We have been lucky enough to be chosen for the press to follow for the year. They will be coming into our room and checking with us frequently to see what we're up to. Here is the latest article! Congratulations!

Turkey Fun

During this short week we had the opportunity to participate in grade level stations. The math, reading, and writing teachers combined all grade level students to do a mega station day. Each content area planned fun and educational stations related to things we have been learning or something about Thanksgiving! We had so much fun! We can't wait until another mega station day!

Here is a recipe that you can make at home. It may not be the healthiest snack, but it sure was fun to make! Who knew?

1. You will need 1 Oreo cookie.
2. 1 Hershey's Kiss
3. Candy Corn
Split the Oreo cookie in half. Add the Hershey's Kiss on its side to create the head. Stand half of the cookie up in the icing. Stick the candy corn on the cookie standing up to make the turkey feathers. Eat and enjoy!
I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday!
See you next week,
Ms. Howard

Letter T

Hello! It is our first Blog-E-Work night! We have been working on letter t this week. Your children visited Eagle Slough and looked at trees in science, and they learned all about the growing process. They planted some saplings that they will visit in the spring to see if they made it through the winter.

Here is tonight's assignment:
1. Answer this question: Name 3 things around your house that begin with the letter T. Look out, your child may be on a hunt for awhile :) Please post your response in the comment section.
2. Finally, view this video that we love to share about the letter T in class. It will get you rockin'. Clear some space! Have fun.

Welcome to Blog-E-Work!

Welcome everyone to our Blog-E-Work site. Here you will find updates, sharing of successes, and special moments that happen throughout the day while your children are learning. Most importantly, this is where we all will learn together as a "work from home" community.

I will be sending a schedule home with your child of homework nights, and Blog-E-Work nights. I will also be sending a list of rules we must follow while using this blog to obtain the best learning experience for your child. For Blog-E nights, I will post material directly related to the classroom. It may be a response, a website to visit and comment on, or a problem to work. The next school day after Blog-E posts, we will discuss the post in class and take a look at the responses.

The idea behind this Blog is to have your child communicating using a different type of educational tool. The educational world is changing, and using technology is a must these days. I encourage you to become involved in your child's education by experiencing the Blog-E-Work with them. It is a neat way to do homework and will keep them engaged!

With that said, come along for the ride! Our year has begun and is moving along quite quickly already! Here is our first celebration, we have made the news! Click this link to see more.
